Moving to Atsugi...good or bad

My husband just received an e-mail saying he was selected for Atsugi. We don't have concrete orders yet, but I wanted to research what I could before hand. We currently live in Italy and initially wanted Yokosuka for our next duty station. So, we know what the procedure of living over seas is already.

Questions
*Is it worth trying to get Yokosuka orders instead? Or should we just be content with the Atsugi? Atsugi vs. yokosuka.....
*My other concern is job positions. I almost have 3yrs in the GS and NSPS system. What employment opportunities does Atsugi vs.Yokosuka offer. Is it possible for me to work at Yokosuka (if we live half way between the bases) even though our orders are for Atsugi?
*We have a small dog (MinPin 10lbs). If we live on-base what are the stipulations? If we live off-base where would be a good district where it's not too far from either bases? What are some trials we will run into while finding a home off-base AND living off-base?
*We are a young couple. I am 22 and my husband is 25. We want to know what kind of lifestyle Atsugi offers to young couples without children. Would Yokosuka suit us better?
*Also, I have really really bad asthma. Does the clinic offer asthma specialists or anything related to caring for asthma including emergencies like asthma attacks. bronchitus etc. Or would I have to go to Yokosuka for emergencies and check-ups?
Basically, what should we expect considering the PROS and CONS of being stationed at Atsugi???

We saw at americanable that the had AFN & local channels that should be free to access. I'm not interested in the fan just the local as my daughter loves a morning show when we stayed in the lodge last week. We have a hd TV and I have bought a cable to try inputting the wall connection but there are 6 in the main living area. This worked for me in the USA , anything anyone can suggest for me to try. I've run the channel search a few different ways. The autocorrect on fan was supposed to be AFN, I can't fix it on my iPad.

Distance to Zama

Hi all! I am looking for some information/help determining if it is realistic to travel to Camp Zama from the Atsugi base to take classes...from what I understand the high school students travel every day so I am assuming it is realistic but I wanted to double check. We plan on getting a car but I am also wondering if there are methods of public transit that go between the two bases as well? Thanks in advance for any help!

Atsugi Command Sponsorship

OK I know that there are hundreds of forums on here related to Command Sponsorship (C.S.).

Here's an overview:
My husband is stationed at NAF Atsugi, he's in the NAVY. We're beginning my CS paperwork in probably mid May. I'll be there from mid-Feb to June, we're flying to Guam half way through.

Is it possible for me to have to medical and dental clearances done while I am in Japan visiting on base? I'd rather do that instead of waiting until I return to Florida in June, THEN have to send the paper back to my husband. I know that it has to be signed off on by the people there. Can't I just have both clearances done while I am already there on base?

It would be so much more easier!!

Hello!

I received orders for Atsugi (will be working primarily at the health clinic and with the carrier air wing) and I had a few questions, if you don't mind answering them! Sorry if these are answered in another topic but I didn't see anything specific.

1) I've been told I'm likely living off base (single with no dependents) and wanted to know if furnished apartments existed over there. Most of my furniture (bed, dining room set, etc) is on the larger side and I was gonna leave it stateside, and it'd be nice not to have buy too much if it were furnished.

2) Is having a car absolutely necessary? If it's MUCH more convenient to have one than not, then I will buy one (since it sounds like they are cheap), but was wondering if I really needed one since I will be likely deployed most of the time and I heard the public transportation is pretty good... I understand that this may be dependent on where I live.
